SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS:

ENSURE INCLUSIVE AND EQUITABLE QUALITY EDUCATION AND PROMOTE LIFELONG LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL

This is the fourth goal of the SDGs. Let's delve into this topic deeper.

According to Cambridge Dictionary, education is the process of teaching and learning or simply we can say a process that helps and gives people access to knowledge.

Education allows us to have a better understanding of our community's values and culture.

Education also assists individuals in building their social skills and getting the necessary training to perform different jobs and skills.

All these things make quality education extremely crucial for a fulfilling and independent life. That is why it is a basic right for every child, adolescent, and adult all over the world.

This goal focuses on ensuring this right is respected and implemented so that every person in the world got an opportunity to access education.

United Nations stated that 147 million children missed over half of in-person instruction in 2020 and 2021 while 24 million learners from pre-primary until university level may never return to school due to many factors.

Some of the reasons may be:
  • War
  • Poverty
  • Disease
  • Working
  • Armed conflict
  • Living far away from school

Here are some of its targets:
4.1. By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable, quality primary and secondary education, leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes.

4.2. By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care, and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary education.

4.3. By 2030, ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational, and tertiary education, including university.

4.4. By 2030, substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurship.

4.5. By 2030, eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and children in vulnerable situations.

Apart from that, did you know that young and teenage girls from certain countries do not have the same chances to learn and go to school as boys?

This causes them to have a lower education level and fewer possibilities to get a skilled job when they're adults. Education needs to be available for everyone from the youngest children all the way to adults.
