SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS:
As you can see from the title above, today let's take a look at the third goal of SDGs.
Providing a healthy lifestyle and well-being for all people is essential for sustainable development.
According to United Nations, Covid-19 has disrupted basic health services in 92% of countries and slowed the progress of universal health coverage, resulting in 15 million fatalities.
Many improvements and advances in recent decades have extended the life expectancy of people, but there is still other work to be done in order to end diseases, develop cures, and provide access to an adequate healthcare system for all.
The number of moms who died during childbirth remains a major concern in developing countries. According to World Health Organization, every day in 2020, almost 800 women died from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Maternal death also occurred nearly every two minutes in that year, whereby 95% of it occurred in low and lower-middle-income countries.
Here are some of its targets:
3.1. By 2030, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births.
3.2. By 2030, end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age, with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1,000 live births and under-5 mortality to at least as low as 25 per 1,000 live births.
3.3. By 2030, end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases, and other communicable diseases.
3.4. By 2030, reduce by one-third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being.
3.5. Strengthen the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, including narcotic drug abuse and harmful use of alcohol.
Nutrition is crucial for overall health. Did you realize that the nutrition we receive as children significantly impacts us as adults?
Child health is vitally important; the situation is better than it was in the past since their chances of receiving sufficient medical care have grown. Nonetheless, many children still suffer from ailments like malnutrition due to a lack of access to adequate medicine.
Thanks to the efforts and initiatives of humanitarian aid institutions and organizations, deaths from these causes have decreased significantly, which is a piece of very encouraging news. However, there is still a long way to go in order to improve the health and well-being of all people in the world. All of these require an effort from all local, national, and international administrations, including us as a global community.
